It began as a casual
remark two years ago. VM Director, Jim Clancy was recording at
one of the studios in Dallas and talking with radio personality
Ron Chapman, of KVIL, about The Music Never Ends, our album
released in April, 1996. Jim and Ron spoke about the
possibilities of how The Vocal Majority would sound with a rhythm
and orchestration background. It was something they agreed had to
be done.
Overhearing this conversation was Tom Merriman, considered one of
the "godfathers" of instrumental arranging. He became
interested about it too, and wanted to be counted in as the
instrumental arranger.
And so it was to be: Ron would pick out romantic songs that
hadn't been updated lately. Jim would arrange the vocals
expressly for The Vocal Majority, and Tom would arrange the
instrumentals. The goal would be to create the best recording
from The Vocal Majority yet.
Two years later, we are proud to introduce The Vocal Majority
With Strings, featuring 13 of the greatest love songs ever
recorded. With the men of The Vocal Majority, and an expansive
full orchestra including strings, brass, and percussion, it's a
sound like no other ever recorded.
The recording opens with Can You Feel The Love Tonight, the
powerful, yet touching hit recorded by Elton John for The Lion
King. It's followed by Chances Are, Moments To Remember, I Only
Have Eyes For You, I Don't Want To Walk Without You, and When I
Fall In Love. A medley of Meditation and Quiet Nights Of Quiet
Stars follows, along with In The Arms Of Love, September Song,
and Moonglow. Closing this romantic recording are Smoke Gets In
Your Eyes and Moonlight Serenade.
Ron Chapman is the Executive Producer of The Vocal Majority With
Strings. As any listener of Ron on the KVIL morning show can
expect, there will be a lot of air play in the Dallas/Fort Worth
Metroplex starting next month. Ron has long been a supporter of
The Vocal Majority, and when asked why he took such a special
interest in this recording, he replied:
"I recognized I was in a unique position to promote the
excellence of The Vocal Majority, and at the same time,
perpetuate the appreciation of great songs and phenomenal
harmonies."
The Vocal Majority is
a 120 voice male chorus of business and professional people who
sing for the love of singing. They don't make their living in
music. Most are engineers ... salesmen ... airline employees ...
yet when brought together this Dallas/Fort Worth based group wins
more International awards than any other in its field.
On most occasions The Vocal Majority sings a cappella.
But we wondered what would happen if we took this widely
acclaimed chorus and backed them with orchestral accompaniment
and a full section of lush strings. And what if we chose some of
the very best love songs ever recorded and reissued them with a
whole new Vocal Majority harmony?
This is a rare harmonic convergence. 13 songs in 12 tracks by
composers as diverse as Glenn Miller ... Elton John ... and
Antonio Carlos Jobim. Orchestrations by the legendary Tom
Merriman. Vocal arrangements by multi-award winning Jim Clancy.
Singing by 120 men who receive no payment except your
appreciation.
