Barbershop After Dark (CD)
After the concert, after the competition, there's the Afterglow. Before, the
barbershop quartets joyfully ring seventh chords, singing about Mom, Adeline,
the old songs and the old gang. After, they reach into their repertoire for
songs that are perhaps a bit more relaxed, a bit more jazzy, a bit more risqué.
This compilation brings together some of the best Afterglow selections by some
of the best men's barbershop quartets. The line-up includes seven international
champion quartets and five of the top 10 runners-up at the 2000 SPEBSQSA
competition.
The song selection leans heavily towards jazzy arrangements befitting a
Speakeasy ambiance, but concludes with some bass solos arrangements and some
"other" music. It's clear listening to these talented singers that the
best of barbershoppers are capable of singing just about any style of music to
which they apply their considerable skills.
