O Worship the King

ACOUSTIX continues their tradition of presenting a wide variety of musical styles with this heavenly blend of Inspirational, Sacred, Gospel and Contemporary Christian selections, including: O Worship the King, You’ll Never Walk Alone, The Lord’s Prayer, Hymns of the Cross Medley (In the Cross, Beneath the Cross, Old Rugged Cross), My Tribute, Breathe On Me Breath of God, Fear Not My Child, What Wondrous Love is This and O Sacred Head Now Wounded Medley, My Lord and I, Swing Low Sweet Chariot, American / Canadian Ode to Joy, featuring the Toronto Northern Lights Chorus, I’ll Fly Away Medley (I’ll Fly Away, I Saw The Light, Will the Circle Be Unbroken and This Little Light of Mine) This disc includes new custom vocal charts from some of the biggest names in vocal music, like Gene Puerling, Kirby Shaw, Jim Clancy and Jay Giallombardo. While predominantly a cappella in content, a few cuts feature accompaniment from a simple drum track to an 18-piece big band.

Cool Yule

Nominated for a “2000 CARA” Award for Best Holiday Song. Acoustix once again has released an amazing album. This one however, if you couldn’t tell by the title, is a collection of some of the most inventive arrangements of Christmas music around. I’ll admit, I received my copy after Christmas, but as soon as I pressed play, I felt like it was that time of year again! Most songs here make your mouth drop with the amount of talent these guys possess. Absolutely perfect tuning that sends chills down your back. It’s also nice how they’re able to switch from pure jazz to barbershop quartet and everything in the middle. My personal favorite is You’re a Mean One Mr. Grinch arranged by Greg Volk and sung by Joel T. Rutherford, in my opinion, the best bass in the business. Being a Christmas album it’s not something one could play all year long, but as far as Christmas albums go, this is one of the best that I’ve heard. It’s full of a nice variety of music that is fun and pleasing to listen to. There are also many parts that you’ll have to stop what you’re doing just to enjoy the pure genius that is Acoustix. This one’s a keeper. – Chris Salnier, Recorded A Cappella Review Board

Jazz, Jazz, Jazz

Nominated for two 1999 CARA Awards, one for Best Jazz Album and another for Best Jazz Song, for Gene Puerling’s arrangement of Unforgettable, which features guest vocalists Jim and Greg Clancy (Director and Assistant Director of the Vocal Majority). The foursome presents a cache of songs guaranteed to please a wide variety of listeners. The title track “Jazz, Jazz, Jazz”, is a homage to the greats of the era: Nat, Benny, Frank, and of course, the Four Freshmen, to whom Acoustix pay tribute throughout this album. Five of the songs feature orchestral accompaniment from the Dallas Jazz Orchestra and the Steve Lehmann Big Band on “Jazz, Jazz, Jazz,” “Day by Day,” “Poinciana,” “Graduation Day / It’s a Blue World” and “Route 66.” Wendy Wilson DeCrow performs on “The Nearness of You” and the quartet performs Pete Rupay’s All The Way. Many arrangements on the CD were done by the Greg Volk, including Straighten Up And Fly Right, Orange Colored Sky, Answer Me My Love, Shine On Your Shoes / Steppin’ Out Medley, and the closing medley of Simon and Garfunkel hits is presented as a bonus track.

The New Science of Sound

This recording is a treasure of barbershop and smooth a cappella vocal harmony, including the six songs Todd Wilson, Rick Middaugh, Jason January and Jeff Oxley performed to win the International Quartet Championship on their very first attempt. The demand for this recording has not subsided since its release in 1991.
